Default Spitfire, Newburgh, 30 December 1941

Leslie Hunt's book "Twenty-One Squadrons" lists a Spitfire V as crashing SE of Newburgh, Aberdeenshire, on 30 December 1941, does anyone please have further information?

Spitfire Mk Va s/n W3110 had a Cat. AC flying accident on 30/12/41. Cat. AC = minor damage to the airframe and serious damage to the engine, as far as I know.

The aircraft was " repaired on site " but a few weeks later was with Scottish Aviation for further work, so it seems to have been in the right locality at the time.

    I hope this helps.
