    Default 417 Prang

    G'day Keith

The only thing that pops up in the squadron ORB is Spitfire Mk. VB s/n AD302. It crash landed at Tain on the 7th of February, 1942 due to engine failure. The aircraft was written off.

    Cheers...Chris

Some confusion on dates here, perhaps. From the Spitfire production list on-line, this aircraft joined 417 Squadron on 7 February 1942, crashed at Tain on 9 March 1942. Chris, is your date from the ORB?

I have two other RCAF Spitfires lost on 28 February 1942, both 411 Squadron, after a mid-air: AA844 and AB265.

I already had AD302 crashing at Tain 9 March 1942, due to seizure of main bearings. Morgan & Shacklady concurs.
