    Default 100 Group Mosquito - 19/07/1944

    Hello!
    ORB 68 Sqn RAF 19/07/1944 :
"FERRO26 (F/Sgt Bullus - Sgt Duff) escorted a 100 Group Mosquito coming back from Germany on one engine to Woodbridge where it effected a safe landing."
Can anybody tell me the Squadron, aircraft number and crew details for a 100 Group Mosquito?
The question seems very difficult. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Pavel

    Hi Pavel

I may be able to give you the answer to this in the next day or so (if not tonight) from my details of a/c 'arrivals' at RAF Woodbridge which I've been researching for a couple of years.

I'll check my notes (not complete, but listing about 1,700 a/c so far) as soon as I can.

Can you give me an approximate time for the landing?

    Best wishes

    Ian

    Default Night 19/20.7.1944.

    Hi Ian
Unfortunately, 68 Sqn ORB is leaky as a sieve.
    Known only to the.
"FERRO26 (F/Sgt Bullus - Sgt Duff) escorted a 100 Group Mosquito coming back from Germany on one engine to Woodbridge where it effected a safe landing."
    About unsolvable?
    Regards

The 100 Group Mosquito squadrons were Nos 23, 85, 141, 157, 169, 239 and 515 so that limits your area of search somewhat. The ORBs for that period should give an answer.

    Hi Pavel

Bingo! Try this one. From the RAF Woodbridge ORB:

    03.55 hrs, 20/7/1944
Mosquito NT118, VI-N of 169 Sqn, 100 Gp, Great Massingham
    Bomber Support, Bremen raid
    P/O P A J Dils
Starboard engine going u/s. [nb Sqn ORB says port engine failed over Dortmund]. Called and vectored by Coltishall, then taken over by Woodbridge and made good landing. [Sqn ORB says landing time 04.55].

No reference to the 68 Sqn 'escort' but looks like this could be your one.

    All the best.
