Strange, nowhere an estimation of civilian casualties is mentioned.

Don't be surprised Bart - this was Imperial "policing" - civilian casualties didn't count. It was very much a question of behave or we will punish you like little children.

"Strange, nowhere an estimation of civilian casualties is mentioned."

In more recent times accounted for by that infamous phrase - 'collateral damage'.

At least with "collateral damage" there's an acknowledgement that the casualties were inadvertent. The types of operations that occurred in the NWF would be deemed as "collective punishment", which were deemed illegal at Nuremberg etc. However, one has to accept that the role of the RAF and IAF crews was to follow orders in a climate of imperialism so I don't hold them responsible for the decisions of the Imperial powers.

And apologies to Ross and the others - this board is for RAF activities during the war and not a political discussion board. I hope the others don't mind this little deviation.
