    Default Ian Robert Campbell, POW

I cannot find out the exact circumstances of how he became a POW but he was involved in anti shipping operations prior to 1942 - had a long career and became an Air Vice Marshal.

Hi Chris, you know i hadn't actually found him doing a google search but found him on the Air of Authority website now i've searched for Air Vice Marshall...... So thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'll be interested to see who can identify his unit now.

    Cheers, Tom

Hi chaps, i have now read Campbell's POW questionnaire and it gives his unit as being 203 Squadron and his capture on the 23rd January 1942.

Can anyone tie in a loss on this date? I presume a Baltimore.

    Cheers, Tom

    Hello Tom,
Baltimores 203 Sqn not before August 1942.
    Couldn't find a Hudson loss - on service Feb 42 - March 42.
They also had Marylands - on service Feb 42 - Nov 42.
However found a Blenheim IV (May 40 - Nov 42) in AB Serials for 203 Sqn lost "27"-1-1942: V5861.
    Regards,
    Henk.

Henk has found the right aircraft but Warner gives the date as the 23rd:

FTR from sortie to shadow Italian Battle Fleet; F/O I Campbell, P/O Cuthbertson RAAF and P/O F Black ditched, rescued and became POWs

Thanks Henk and Amrit, thats great. Do you think that it is a typo with the date or that it was four days until they were captured though?

    Cheers, Tom
