Default No.7 PFF ORB Details Needed

    Gents,

F/O Arthur Frederick HOOKWAY RAAF KIA

This officer joined No.7 PFF Squadron via No.115 Squadron around mid March 1944. He was killed on May 21/22nd against Duisburg. I would really appreciate if anyone with the 7 Squadron ORB could list this chaps op's for me with 7 Squadron, including any remarks and details.

    Regards

    Hello Steve

I have this Squadron ORB for the period you're seeking.

Give me some time and I'll compile the list of the missions he flew with No. 7 Squadron.

    Hi Joss,

Great news, if wanted I will send you details on this crew. I think he only carried out 6 to 8 op's before he and his crew were lost.

PS : I sent you a post this morning, sorry for the delay, also if you email me I may have some information for you.

    Regards

    Joss,

I also thank you for the above info on P/O Hookway RAAF. I have a problem though. In Hookway's A9300 at the NAA, his posting in date to No.7 Sqn is quoted as 19th March, 1944. Errol Martyn, in For Your Tomorrow Vol.3 p.216, quotes the posting in date of NZ421969 F/Sgt Reginald Halsey Grant RNZAF as the 29th March, 1944. Is the date you mention for the Hookway crew, the posting in date?

    Col,

I too noticed the date issue. Hookway had completed 4 operations with No.115 Squadron between Lancaster conversion at 1678 CU and joining No.7 PFF Squadron. He had prior to this completed 5 operations with No.623 Squadron based at Downham Market, 4 as skipper, plus a 2nd dickie op with fellow Aussie F/Lt John Wallace RAAF.

    Cheers

    Hello

I had noticed this gap between the presumed postings in March and the date quoted in the ORB. I've quoted verbatim from the document.

I would have thought that some extra training might have been received, at the PFF NTU, but it's not stated in the Squadron ORB. There's a mix of postings in directly from other Squadrons, or from OTUs, and a minority from PFF NTU.

Other explanation would be a leave, and 7th April being the date they reported in Oakington.

    Joss/Steve,

Thanks, noticed the discrepancy, thought l would point it out.

On pp.17-18 of Hookway's A9300, there are Leave Cards which show he took 5 days Privilege Leave between 21st March, 1944 and 25 March, 1944. The Unit/Authority quoted is: NTU. So it seems at sometime during this period he was attached/posted to the Pathfinder Force Navigation Training Unit. No indication of that fact in the rest of the file.
