Default Any RAF night fighter incident / accident, 15/16 July 1944

    Hello,

I'm looking for details about a possible mid-air collision between a R.A.F. night fighter and a German Do-217 from 7./ KG 2, the latter crashing south of Arras (France), 3 crewmen KIA, 1 survivor who had bailed out, during the night 15/16 July 1944.

I'm not sure the R.A.F. machine actually crashed.

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks in advance

    Joss

There were two Mosquito losses on the 16th, MM441, 108 Sqn, missing on intruder to Toulouse and MM548, 29 Sqn, was damaged beyond repair in a unspecified accident. The 15th has MM551, 488 Sqn, which crashed while returning from a patrol.

    Hello

Thanks for your input. I'll check these 3 Squadrons' ORBs for the next visit to Kew. No. 29 Squadron looks more promising, as I have no trace of an allied crash in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais area on that night, the only known crash being this Dornier.

The Air-Britain file MA100-MZ999 entry about MM551 has "flew into wood descending in cloud near Holmsley South, 15.7.44 returning from patrol".

    Regards

    Joss
