    Hello All,

Please find detailed below my notes on the loss of Martinet HN939, just confirming what others have already stated.

26.09.43 Flying Accident Cat E2 damage 8 A.G.S., Evanton, aircraft crashed into low wall after bellylanding in field following engine failure at low altitude. Aircraft caught fire and burnt out, Dornoch Sutherland. Pilot Flying Office MORRIS, Thomas Charles (47701) D.F.C. Killed, T.T.O. Corporal SOMERVILLE, William (626169) killed. Accident time 09.45, Duty: Target Towing. F/O Morris was admitted to Golspie hospital dangerously ill from multiple injuries and burns and unfortunately died of his injuries on 27th September 1943. On the28th September Wing Commander POTTER arrived at R.A.F. Evanton to investigate the accident. Mr Bill Grant, an eye witness remembers hearing the engine running roughly then cut out all together, the pilot attempted a forced landing but hit the high spots in the ground, bounced up again just missed the farm house gable end banked to the left and crashed through a stone dyke wall into tress and caught fire

    Hope some of this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Tim

For what its worth at this stage

Cormier is listed as 'Died of wounds or injuries received on active service'
Walker appears to be KOAS in Flight,
Wyatt is listed as DOAS, death registered in Birmingham district.

P/O Gillespie is a KOAS listing, registered in Newbury, Berks. There is a place called Greenham in this district, is this Greenham Common? Would a he be likely for Oxford HN189

Downie is a DOAS listing also.

P/O. Lawrence GILLESPIE - RAFVR - 152304 - the Graves Registration Report Form lists his unit as 15 (P) A.F.U., linking him to Oxford HN189, which hit a bowser after swinging on take off from Greenham Common, and was destroyed by fire.

    Regards

    Simon
