    Default Cpl A R Gunston #533731 POW Whitley K8947 of 77 Sqn October 15/16 1939

Can anyone fully ID this airman?

I have tried Air 78 without success - I am led to believe his Service Number is #533731 - He was Repatriated Aug44

    Other full crew details

    Cpl A.R. Gunston - POW #533731
Sgt James William Lambert - POW #520517
    F/O John Tilsley - POW # 39401

    Thanks Paul

    Paul,

l think your looking for Cpl "Ronald" GUNTON, not Cpl A R GUNSTON!

    See: Footprints on the Sands of Time/Clutton-Brock. pp.3, 4, 30, 308 & 482.

    Paul, Col,
    This might be yr man?

    Civil registration event: Death
    Name: GUNTON, Alfred Ronald
    Registration district: Northumberland Central
    County: Northumberland
Year of registration: 2000 Month of registration: September
    Date of Birth:4 March 1919
District no: 6771D Reg no: 2D Ent no: 040 DOR: 900

    HTH
    Peter Davies

And that Service Number looks a bit "odd".

Cpl Alfred Ronald "Ronald" Gunton #533731 it is found him on Air 78

All references I checked have his name spelt as "Gunston" which is why I could not find it on Air 78!

    Thanks Col and Peter!
