Default RAF Sabre collision over Germany 26 October 1954

I hope Ross will allow one post slightly off in time.

I have mixed reports on details of a mid-air with 2 RAF Sabres over Germany, date reported as 26 or 27 October 1954. Serials are reported as XB729 and either XB678 or XB628. Probably No. 71 Squadron.

Can anyone confirm the serials, the date, and the crash location? Also, did XB678 or XB628 survive the collision?

    Hi,

It was XB729 and XB628 of 71 Sqdn.

The two planes collided on 26/10/54 when the pilot of XB729 made a mock attack on XB628.

The pilots either ejected or were thrown clear and descended by parachute.

Accident was 10 miles from Krefeld.

Both pilots were thrown out in unfired ejection seats.
