    Default 37 Squadron

Looking for assistance in researching a crew member serving in N Africa 1941 - 42 and would appreciate search leads!

Default tell us what you know already first of all

It might help to give us a few pointers, presumably you have his name?

You know he was with 37 Squadron? then get the Sqn ORB from the UK National Archives.

if he died in the war, get his service record from the RAF.

There is a 37 Sqn history

Er, I wouldn't by any stretch of the imagination described 'Wise Without Eyes' a 'detailed' history, so I'd be careful about recommending it.

    Dennis,

I think you are rather abrupt if I am honest, not really in the spirit of the forum in my opinion.

Royton, I have the ORB, contact me off board and I will see what i can do.

Firstly, yes I am aware of both "Wise without Eyes" and the National Archives. The individual concerned was Sgt J W Hey a former Sqn navigator who taught me GCE 'O' level Air Navigation in the late 1970s and an excellent chap he was too. Sadly he passed away a few years ago and a former teaching colleague whom he worked with has been to the NA but has not found anything and I am just wondering if he was looking at the wrong reference, surely he would be mentioned I thought somewhere on Sqn records ie: when he joined and left the unit. Whilst he is not mentioned in "Wise without Eyes" that to me is not necessarily significant as such a book cannot mentione everyone!
