    Default Manchester L7309

The Aircraft Movement Card for Avro Manchester L7309 shows that, after a spell at Cat AC from 14/11/41, it moved to ‘RAAA’ on 29/12/41, both entries being notified by the Civilian Repair Organisation. Subsequently, on 31/12/41, it was issued to 207 Sqdn.

Can anyone explain RAAA for me, please? In his book on the Manchester, Dr Robert Kirby just prints the initials, offering no explanation, and it isn’t included in Air-Britain’s RAF Support and Training Units.

    Regards

    Default Raaa

Googling "raaa aircraft repairs" comes up with: 'Repaired and Awaiting Allocation'.

    Sounds about right?

I've also seen it written as 'AWCN' = Awaiting Collection.

Youíre probably right. In the 7,300-odd Lancaster cards that I have looked at, RAAA doesnít appear at all, but AW/CN appears frequently, suggesting that it superseded RAAA.

If there is a difference in meaning, itís very subtle.

    Allan
