Default WO Benjamin Harthill DFC - 97 squadron.

I wonder if any forum members have any details of my fathers DFC citation awarded in march 1945. He flew with 97 squadron from feb 1944.

No guarantee but I believe you will find the original recommendation (with a sortie list) in the British Archives (Kew) in Air 2/9051. Let us know the results.

Could he have served earlier in No.51 Squadron ? Consulting British Archives website for Combat Reports (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/combat-reports-ww2.htm) I find several for a Sergeant Harthill between August 1943 and January 1944.

    Hugh,

l think you will find that the HARTHILL you mention, is in fact 951579 F/S John Cameron HARTHILL RAFVR, who was a rear gunner on No.51 Sqn. He was killed on 24-2-1944, when No.51 Sqn Halifax III LV778, failed to return from Schweinfurt.
