    Default Night Fighter Claim confirmation

    Gents,

On the night of Thursday 16th December 1943 No.218 Squadron lost Short Stirling Mk.III EE888 HA-K flown by Sergeant Dennis Williams RAFVR. The crew where on their first operation with the squadron having previously operated with No.623 Squadron.

In my notes I have the aircraft and crew shot down by a N/F flown by Fw Holtfreter IV./NJG3. I have checked Theo's excellent book and this does not correspond. Can anyone confirm the details of this loss please?

    Kind regards

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

I've checked my records and can confirm that Holtfreter did not achieve an Abschuss on 16-17.12.43. There were no Stirling claims on this night, only Lancaster claims, so we can presume that EE888 was not shot down by a NF. Perhaps Flak?? (I've no information about the Flak claims on this night unfortunately).

    Cheers, Theo
