Default 27 OTU / Wing Commander JGW Swain 39136

W/C James George Wilson SWAIN 39136 was posted from 27 OTU to command the newly-reformed 100 Squadron in December 1942, via 1656 HCU where he converted to Lancasters. Can anyone shed any light on his time at 27 OTU, or indeed any of his career prior to posting to 100 Squadron?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

    Hi Greg,

I have the ORB but I don't have ready access to the section you want. The good thing is that it is chock full of photos of classes and instructors.

Let me have a good look for it later today and I'll mail the desired pages to you. It's one of the better OTU ORBs I have seen.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Dave, as always, you are a star. Thanks buddy. Next time you're in dear old Blighty there's a pint for you, and if you're really lucky Smudger will pay for it before you drink it ;-)

Thanks Dave, I'll keep my eyes open for them. And as some of his squadrons were 1 Group affairs before they headed south, I allow Smudge to drink with me on a technicality. But he always has to get the first round in ;)

I would suggest you concentrate on your research into No.1 Group Lardy! I will refrian from saying something I regret and being the first forum member to be banished since the take over!!!!!

The Codes document will be with you this week.

Oh dear, what have I stepped into?

Greg, I have the ORB opened now and see nothing, mate. I'm just going to send you all the pages around November/December and see what you can find.

Yes, 3rd and 4th but no time for Kew sadly.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Thanks Dave, I appreciate you looking up the details for me. Shame you can't make Kew while you're over, would have been good to meet for a pint.
