Default 73 OTU, struture and Thunderbolt codes

    Hello,

Does anyone know how an OTU was organised. In 1945, there were Hurricanes, Spitfires and Thunderbolts flying with 73 OTU in Egypt. Was there a squadron for each type and more than a squadron per type, and how many planes in each?

Furthermore, does anyone have a partial list of numbers used by the Thunderbolts?

It seems that the Spit and Thuns were using the same sequence.

    Many thanks in advance

    Phil

    Hi Phil,

Only know HD176 - 36, HD154 - 18, and KJ348 the all black mount of the CO Frank Carey which was unnumbered. All P-47.

However on the positive side there is a 73 OTU pilot, Stan Colley, in the line up for a signing event at Aces High, Wendover this Sunday (6th).

    regards Peter
