Default Sgt Plt McWatt, 610 Sqn, 1941

    Hi all

Can anyone positively identify a 610 Sqn pilot and aircraft, listed by Norman Franks in RAF FC Losses as "Sgt F. McWatt" in Spitfire Vb "A", who crash-landed near Deal on 7 August 1941 after Circus 62, hit a mine and was injured?

Was it 1343399 William McWATT (Commissioned 141100) or someone else? Does anyone have the 610 Sqn ORB that can identify the serial of the aircraft, too, please?

    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Steve

    Sgt F McWatt, 935213

There are different versions of the accident that injured McWatt in Franks and the F1180.

    Thanks Ross

So, Frank McWatt in that case, according to his commissioning on 23 Apr 43 in the LG.

Are you able to expand on what is stated in the F1180, please?

    Thanks

    Steve,

Frank McWatt was my father and I have his log book. On 7 August 1941 he states 'Sweep Bethune and - Lille - Met 20+ 109's on entering France. Aircraft did 'bunt' fell from 25000' to 2000'. Crashed at Friston. Had a couple of beautifull 'shiners' well and truly 'clobbered' by 109. Tail chewed up by cannon shells, leg face and wrist (shell fragments).

    Below, he has written....
Sgts Black,Wright (D), Raine, Ballard and F/Lt Milling missing.

Sgt Black reported prisoner of war.
W/c Bader missing reported prisoner of war.

Sadly dad passed away in 1993, he was well loved.
