Success for last lot in 2022

AIR 81/1585 – Sergeant J D Lang: killed; Avro Trainer K25, Kenya Auxiliary Air Unit; aircraft accident, 17 October 1939

AIR 81/1741 - Pilot Officer J R Wilson: killed; Harvard P5801, 14 Service Flying Training School; aircraft accident, Alves, 18 December 1939

    AIR 81/1772 - Flying Officer H B M Pearson, Sergeant Pilot F M Pennel, Aircraftman F H Rook: killed; Leading Aircraftman C M Ritter: injured; aircraft accident, Anson K6246, 48 Squadron, 6 January 1940

AIR 81/1780 - Sergeant D B Ross: injured; Pilot Officer J D Williams (RNZAF), Aircraftman V Bishop: missing believed killed; aircraft accident, Colombo, Ceylon, Vildebeest K4156, 273 Squadron, 9 January 1940

    AIR 81/1784 - Sergeant J H Hanne, Sergeant G L Williams, Aircraftman E Vick: missing believed killed; Blenheim P4859, 110 Squadron, 10 January 1940

We are pleased to tell you that, in consultation with the Ministry of Defence, it has been decided that these records can now be made available in full to the public at The National Archives, Kew.

The records will be opened by 20 December 2022.

A whole bunch will be opened automatically 1st Jan 2023 - I will then look at what else is long tail - I hope to get at least all main files open automatically by 2029 eventually - Some extracts of files will probably remain closed until original dates but main file is open

    Example

    OPEN

AIR 81/2092 Pilot Officer R G M Gilmore, Sergeant T R A D Pearce, Aircraftman A G Wilson: missing believed killed; shot down and crashed near Sugny, Belgium, Blenheim L8742, 21 Squadron, 14 May 1940

    CLOSED UNTIL 2095

AIR 81/2092/1 Closed extracts: 10 pages

    Hi Paul

"AIR 81/1741 - Pilot Officer J R Wilson: killed; Harvard P5801, 14 Service Flying Training School; aircraft accident, Alves, 18 December 1939*

Pilot Officer J R Wilson is actually Ian Richardson Wilson not J R

Is it possible to make an estimate, what files will be opened automatically and how many will be left? Is it by the rule of 100 yrs since birth? Is there a list of casualty packs available?
Alas, how about non ops losses - are there casualty packs as well?

after 1st Jan 2023 - 82 files will remain closed - another batch of around 20 open Jan 2024 and then it is a few each year until about 2035 - some of the part ones are still lates 21st century but all the main parent file will be open

non ops losses and ops losses are in the Air 81 files if a casualty
