Hmm, do you mean the files already transferred to TNA, or the whole lot of AIR 81? I am curious because I am interested in the losses of 1945 of pilots who would be 107 yrs old now, had they not passed away several decades ago.
Re accident losses, sure, they are not a part of AIR 81, but I wonder if they do exist anymore, as initial entry implies. I understand that they were reduced to ashes, with few exceptions in AVIA series, though I would love to be proven wrong. What else is at AHB?

Casualty Files in their original RAF Registry format reside in three places depending on date of creation, transferred to TNA and open/closed in AIR81, transferred from RAF AHB and being processed for transfer to TNA or still with RAF AHB.

If a couple of the 1945 files are important to you you can request AHB to see if they still have the file and will release to you under Publication for the £30 fee
    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/request-...casualty-files

This route is not available if RAFAHB do not hold the file.

    Thank you, Ross.
I am afraid, that the policy is not very encouraging, as they do not provide copies, just transcriptions, and I am told, sometimes one may get a note that the original is illegible. Not quite sure, why if those files will end up in sticky fingers of researchers, anyway. Alas, I am not sure if files contain, what I look for, it is a rule of a thumb, and actually might be a costly experience, if I shall start to check all related losses.
I wonder how many files are there. As yet, 19907 files were transferred and catalogued. I am not sure what was the total number of the losses. I find a number of 42,010 aircraft lost in ETO and MTO, including 30,045 fighters and 11,965 bombers, and 250 aircraft in other theatres. It is said, that BC lost 8,325, FC 4,790 and CC 2,060, so I wonder if it is not a bit excessive.
I shall ask TNA, what are their estimates, and if I get a reply, I will post it here.

That sounds like a good option even if you have to pay £30 per file. Better than waiting for years for them to be released. Have you gone down that route and succesfully received files ? There are files from 1945, 1944, and 1943 that I would like that will not be released for many years to come, and this is interesting information.

Yes had three casualty files from AHB over the years - one before transfer scheme started and two during.

Redaction varied but was in line with the MoD Publication Scheme of the time of application.

This is the current scheme declaration (note that disclosure is only one part of a large encompassing declared scheme)
    https://www.gov.uk/government/organi...ication-scheme

If you have hit a roadblock and exhausted all other routes then - even a nil return has no real effect so anything released is bonus.
