Good Morning

It is possible to say beyond reasonable doubt that we have found the location of the crash site of W5000. It lies many feet below ground in the Meadows of the Este river south of Buxtehude in Germany. It went in at about 2am on the morning of 3 August 1943 (Luftgau). The crew rest with the wreckage. This has been achieved by a process of elimination with 2 Lancaster being unaccounted for. One was a Type III with Merlin engines, W5000 and the other a Type II with rotary engines. The pieces of debris found in the area rather than in the crater are of Merlin type. The crater has not been disturbed during the investigation. My thanks to Alanw and the other guys that have offered advice and support and mainly to Dietz who proved to be invaluable.
