    Default Loss on 20th or 30th October 1944 ?

    Hello,
Seeking confirmation of loss of Sqn Ldr Tofield ?

    CWGC has Flt/Lt Alan Tofield, 81 Sqdn - 20th October 1944.

Was Sqn Ldr Tofield and Flt/Lt Alan Tofield one and the same person ?

Was the loss the 20th October OR 30th October 1944 ?

    Thanks
    Alex

I have checked the London Gazette for Alan Tofield and his promotions stop in July 1942 at F/Lt.. I see the CO of 81 Squadron was S/L Tofield according to Rawlings and his command ceased in October. So the only conclusion I can draw is either CWGC has his rank wrong or he was an acting S/L when he was killed on 20/10/1944 and CWGC has chosen to record him at his substantive rank.

    Hi Alex,

I am looking for a photo of Alan Tofield, he is my Great Uncle.

Do you know where I can find photos from this time??

    Thanks
    Chelle
