Default F/O Milne crash in the sea

    Hi,

Between the papers of a British men that was the link between the embassy in Lisbon and the place of internment in Elvas, I found the name of F/O Milne, from 44 Group. Got the Escape/ Evasion report today and he crashed into the sea on 27 January 1943. The entire crew escaped but it was a difficult task.

Searched trough my database and also some books. Could not find any registration of the plane he was flying. Cann somebody help me on this one.

Have also another E/E report where one crew member is refered as L.A.C. , and not as Sgt, F/O or P/O.

    What is a L.A.C?

    Default L.A.C. Leading Aircraftman

    hello Carlos,

Its the airmans rank, Leading Aircraftman.

I'm sure some one will explain it better. Its the rank below Sergeant.

Have you the names of the other men on Milne's aircraft, it might help people find the aircraft for you.

    Default Sgt's Walton and Stott

    Thanks for that one,

The name of the rest of the crew where Sgt's Walton and Stott.

They landed near Setubal and 200 yards from the coast and the aiplane was washed ashore. Two of them went to the town in a fishermen's boat and were "arrested". Walton stood near the plane and was also "arrested" after midnight.

Internement in Portugal lasted until April 1943...

    Carlos
