Default DC54B EW999 of VIP Flight, 246 Squadron

Churchill travelled from the UK to the 1945 Yalta Conference in the above DC54B of 246 Squadron, leaving the UK on 29 January. I know he stopped at Malta before flying on to Yalta (I assume direct), but I'd appreciate advice as to his routing to Malta. Was it across France, or the long way round via Biscay and Gibraltar?

Sorry to be so rude as to butt in on an otherwise perfectly reasonable request for information. Some Board members might be confused by the mixed aircraft designation. This aircraft type was normally known in the RAF as the Douglas Skymaster. A total of 11 were operated by RAF - 10 with KL serials in 1945/46, and the special one for Churchill was EW999, and indeed it was of the C-54B subtype - all these aircraft were supplied under Lend-Lease. In the USAAF they were known as C-54s of various sub-types, and commercially they were called DC-4s.
