    Hello,

    (UK) - MILLS & STAMPER

    22-1-1944
    No.3 OADU
    Wellington XIII JA268

Departed Hurn 0007, for Rabat Sale, Morocco, via the Scilly Isles and Finistere. At 0130, No.168 (HT) Sqn RCAF Fortress 9205 left its base via the same route, and at 0307, when approximately 145m due west of Brest, the Fortress flying in cloud at 5,000 feet, collided with another aircraft. The Fortress manged to return to its base in the UK, with the white trimming tab and rudder of a Wellington aircraft wrapped around the leading edge of its port wing.

There was no doubt that the Fortress had collided with JA268, as it was the only Wellington aircraft reported missing in that area at that time.

AUS409554 F/Sgt (Pilot) David Brian LARKINS RAAF +
1250065 W/O (Nav.) Thomas Joseph MILLS RAFVR +
1044457 Sgt (W.Op./Air Gnr.) Basil STAMPER RAFVR +

All commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial

    Per: Alan Storr.

Are there any more details on Allen and Wolden? The aircraft listed was in service well past this date, and was sold as scrap in April 1945.

    Hi Bill

6351 is quoted in TSGNO but looking at The Anson File I suspect it should be 6451.

    Hello,
6351 is the number that I had on file.
But from "The ANSON FILE" I found 6451.
6451 - crashed in bad weather on navex 1m E of Lindsay-Kinmount Highway, Ont, 21.1.44.
So yes I agree it fits better than 6351 unless anything official shows more details of crews.

    Hello again

With regards to MITCHELL, Alan - F/S (Nav) - 1359217, the R.C.A.F. records of Jupp include an R.A.F. Form 412 Proceedings of Court of Inquiry into the accident, and it concludes that the probable cause was that neither airman had turned on their oxygen supply before leaving the dispersal at Dyce. The pilot lost consciousness, and the Mosquito was seen to lose control. He then seemed to regain consciousness and pulled the Mosquito up too quickly, causing sufficient stress to pull out the port engine. It then spun to the ground at Morton Palms, Co. Durham.

    Regards

    Simon
