    Default 5708 M & E Flight

Can anyone shed any light on what 5708 M & E Flight was? They were based at RAF Melton Mowbray during 1944, any information would be gratefully appreciated.

It was one of the Mechanical and Electrical Flights associated with Airfield Construction. I have some notes which show that it was part of 5154 M and E Squadron, 5356 Airfield Construction Wing.

The flights / squadrons / wings were all ground based and consisted of the various trades needed to construct runways / airfields. The Electrical & Mechanical Flight was responsible for repairing or installing power generation plant

LOL ... if only you had opened this thread a couple of days ago ...... I borrowed a book on the Airfield Construction Service and gave it back to the owner a couple of days ago.

I couldn't tell you if there were any photographs of this unit in it, but if you can wait till next week I will ask the owner to look through for you (he is on holiday this week so not online).

    Regards

    UPDATE:

Unfortunately there are not any images of 5708 M & E Flight in the book (RAF Airfield Construction Service 1939-1945 by Anthony Betts)

I am trying to find out where the HQ of 5354 Wing was on 10/8/43 and where the HQ of 5356 Wing was on 8/9/43.
Any help would be much appreciated.
