Ryden was killed while flying EG609, the ORB records his name, but no other names. There were 3 serious injuries and 1 minor injury as well as the pilot being killed.

    Hello,

Re: 119531 F/O (Pilot) Anthony Kingsmill BROOK RAFVR

    29-1-1944
    No.1 Aircraft Depot
    Boomerang A46-170

Pilot took off from Charleville aerodrome, Queensland, made the usual circuits to gain height, and when the machine was at a height estimated between 700 and 1,000ft, the engine appeared to cut out. Eye-witnesses state the machine dipped and then rolled and eventually crashed at 0740, in a paddock half-a-mile north of the aerodrome. DBF.

The townspeople of Charleville subscribed to a fund to build a memorial for Tony Brook. They eventually erected a water fountain in his honour.

    Hello

With regards to Mosquito LR495 mentioned above, I think I might have another occupant of this aircraft?

METCALFE, Eric Moore - Sqn Ldr - killed whilst flying in Mosquito IX, LR495 of No A & AEE, which crashed in an attempted forced landing near Larkhill following an engine failure.

In the book 'The Secret Years - Flight Testing at Boscombe Down 1939-1945' there is a photo on page 22 of four pilots, including 'F/L R. H. (Willy) Williams (seriously injured with Eric Metcalfe and posted to a staff appointment in August 1944).'

Would this be Rowland Humphrey Arnold Williams 948593? I found him in Air 78, but I can't find his commissioned Service Number.

I came across him in an article in the Newcastle Journal of Friday September 4th 1969:

    England rugby trailist killed
A former County Durham rugby player has been electrocuted in a United States factory accident, it was learned yesterday.
Mr. R H. Arnold Williams, aged 34, who was a technical adviser at the New Jersey factory, came from South Shields.
He played scrum-half for Westoe and was an England trialist in 1939. The start of World War II dashed his hopes of a cap.
During the war he was a fighter pilot and later became a test pilot.
He was a member of South Shields Golf Club and Westoe Tennis Club.
In America, he coached the Drew University rugby team and played until two years ago. He leaves a widow and a son.

I also found him on a passenger manifest for the 'Queen Elizabeth' sailing to the US in 1947, where his occupation is listed as Pilot.
