August 1944 was a successful month for 488(NZ) Squadron. For the period in question, the ORB shows the following successes:

    04/09/1944
    F/O Shaw & F/Sgt Wyman flying MM439 One Ju88 Destroyed 10m NE of St Lo & 1 Ju88 claimed as damaged
    W/Comm Haine DFC & F/Lt Bowman flying HK504 1 Ju88 Destroyed 8m ENE Vire
    F/Lt Hall & F/O Marriott flying MM513 Destroyed Do217 NW of Rennes

    05/09/1944

    F/Sgt Mclean & F/O Grant flying MM502 - One Do217 Destroyed 10m W of Angers

    06/09/1944
    F/Lt Jameson & F/Lt Crookes flying MM466 One Ju88 Destroyed 15m E Avaranches

    07/09/1944
F/Lt Browne & W/O Taylor flying HK420 Claimed 3 victims, two of them unidentified flew into the ground while trying to evade 488ís aircraft SW of Rennes. Third Ju88 shot down SW of Avaranches.

    TOTALS
    4 Ju88 Destroyed
    2 Do217 Destroyed
    2 unidentified aircraft Destroyed
    1 Ju88 Damaged

Of particular note is the hat-trick of F/Lt Browne on 07/09, as 2 of these aircraft were destroyed without a shot being fired!

All the Squadrons flights for these period were patrols (no scrambles), but the ORB does not indicate which GCI station controlled the contacts.
