Default Flt Lt John Murphy 140532

I appreciate Murphy's name does not appear on Alex's list, but this man is giving me some headaches.

He was commissioned on 1 April 1943 as a Flt Lt in the RAFVR (Met Branch), but died/was killed less than a year later serving with 945 Balloon Squadron. Aged 32, he was buried in Stane Cemetery, Lanarkshire.

His name appears as a casualty alongside other British personnel serving with this Polish squadron (http://www.bbrclub.org/History%20of%...0in%20WWII.htm ), but unless he was providing met support, which I would have thought unusual for a single unit, I'm wondering what he was doing there.

I'd appreciate any advice or pointers.

I'm even further confused now as I can find no reference to Murphy in the 945 Sqn ORB nor any reference to anyone dying during Feb 1944. The main thing that hits one about the squadron is that it was greatly over-strength by nearly 200 personnel.

    Hi Brian

I can't help with a cause but his death was registered in Flyde so he was in the Blackpool area when he died.

Very much obliged, Malcolm, that explains why there is no reference to him in the 945 ORB. Curiouser and curiouser; I'll get his death certificate.
