57 OTU Eshott 1943

Does anyone have any information about an incident at Eshott in either September or October 1943 involving a pilot named RM Kernohan.
Sorry I don't have any other information but am following up on some information I have been given.

Hi Andy,

No mention in ORB for Sept/Oct but he is listed on No.50 course passing out August 11th as

Sgt R M Kernohan 656291

He was a witness in the Court if Inquiry to the loss of 4912 (Sgt Knight) to give evidence that he was the previous pilot and that the aircraft flew with no undue problems.

Hi , i have an accident for RM Kernohan 656291 while at 57 OTU , Spitfire P7744 , E/F , and F/L in field NR Boulmer Airfield Boundry 22/7/43 , not sure if this helps ?

The information I had been given was that he was admitted to Hospital in October due to an injury sustained in an A/C accident.
Does anyone have a copy of the accident card for the incident on 22/7/43?

My father Keith Lawrence was an Instructor at 57 OTU from its arrival in Eshott on 6 November 1942, until 20 June 1943. He has just been approached by the owner of one of the businesses now located in one of the old airfield buildings, who is researching the history of the base and who would like to display information about the airfield during WW2.

While I've been able to put the owner in touch with two researchers (including Phill above) who have already provided a great deal of information, this nevertheless prompts me to ask - has anyone any contacts with RAF servicemen or women from this period at the airfield, or photos from 1942 – 45 of RAF Eshott, please?

Hi, All,

Willis & Holliss (1990 Omnibus Ed) state that in 1944 Eshott had 50 x Single Engine Hardstandings – OK, for a Fighter OTU. I’ve just had a look at the current GE imagery. I can’t see (crop/soil marks) more than about 25? Many off the N peritrack, some off the SW peritrack (between that and the A1), some off the S peritrack, and a few off the SE peritrack. Where were the rest? Not a big problem, but has anybody got the Works & Bricks plan?
