Since he has been deceased for over 25 years you can apply to the MoD (RAF Disclosures at Cranwell) for a copy of his service record.
A fee along with the correct form will return with much more on his career.

Hi folks,
I am not familiar with the RAF at all but I got diverted into researching the following chap:
Walter Frederick Lamb
and his RAF (RAFVR & regular RAF) career.
This is what I have carved out of the London Gazette plus a look up in the Oct 1940 AFL - can anyone add any additional information? His OBE citation perhaps?
Walter Frederick Lamb (75241)
Appointed Flight Lieutenant RAFVR (A & SD) 1st September 1939
According to the Oct1940 AFL he is serving of staff - Department of the Chief of the Air Staff, Deputyof the Air Staff, Directorate of Operations (Home) as of 6th May1940.
Appointed Temporary Squadron Leader RAFVR (A&SD) 1/12/41
Appointed War Substantive Squadron Leader 25/1/44
Awarded OBE as Acting Wing Commander, RAFVR LG 1/1/45
Relinquished War Substantive Squadron Leader 1/11/47 or 1/1/48 (listed twice)
Appointed Squadron Leader (Permanent) with seniority 1/9/45 and transferred to Secretarial branch 1/7/46 (amended in LG 23/3/48)

p.s. I have just learnt he died on the 10th August 1957 in an accident near his home in county cork, Ireland.
Since he has been deceased for over 25 years you can apply to the MoD (RAF Disclosures at Cranwell) for a copy of his service record.
A fee along with the correct form will return with much more on his career.

Hi
Walter Lamb was my grandfather. I found this forum and post through a Google search. As he died relatively young I never got to meet him. It was quite strange to find this thread and all the information about him. Almost more than I know!
We still have the farm in Ireland where he died and all his medals. My grandmother has only just passed away.
I have tried to send the OP an email but got no response, I think he probably just used it for this forum. It would be fascinating to find out why he knew of my grandfather. Maybe he'll see this?
I have replied via personal email to this poster sharing my research on Walter Frederick Lamb. I do hope I hear back from him - nothing yet.
