Default Aiming point certificates and raid cards.

In the gallery I have posted images of raid cards and aiming point certificates. It is my understanding that "Aiming Point Certificates" were awarded to 5 Group crews who successfully bombed the target. The certificates were signed by Ralph Cochrane AOC.

I have little knowledge of "raid cards" and welcome the chance to learn more and to hopefully see more examples.

    Hi David,

Nice collection. I am particularly interested in the card for Lorient 7/8 Feb/43 as one of my men (albeit 61 Sqn), was lost on that raid. Any chance of getting a good hi-res copy?

dfuller I'm afraid what you see is what you get. I found most of these on line, the only original I have is for the Fletcher crew (La Spezia) which my father was a part of.

OK, thanks David. I hope some other members can tell us more about the story behind the awarding of certificates and raid cards.

David. To my best knowledge those I have seen tend to be RCAF related a target photo normally stuck onto the card or certificate. As I suspect you know target photos were displayed as a means to improve crew performances and identify those that needed improving. As you see these infrequently you have to assume it was not widespread and may have been Squadron related.

I have included an additional three pictures to the album. All of them are for 50 Squadron.
