    Default F/O Wilfred SEAMAN A.F.C. 125757, 601 Sqn, KIA 06/07/43

    Hello everyone

I'm looking for some information about the loss of the above pilot, and the award of his A.F.C.

He was lost in Spitfire Vb ER534 on a B-17 escort mission on July 6th 1943 over Sicily with 601 Sqn, in combat with three enemy aircraft. Can anyone give an individual code letter for ER534?

And can anyone give any details of his AFC award? From this post:

    http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...ds-2-June-1943

he was with 31 Repair and Salvage Unit, and his award was announced in the Birthday Honours List of 2 June 1943.

    Many thanks

    Simon

SEAMAN, Wilfred, P/O (125757, RAFVR) - No.31 Repair and Salvage Unit - Air Force Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 2 June 1943. Public Record Office Air 2/9609 (courtesy of Steve Brew) has citation.

This officer acts as pilot and has been responsible for flying back for major repairs a considerable number of aircraft which had been temporarily repaired after forced landings. He has displayed great personal courage, disregard for danger and fine technical knowledge. His skill and efficiency on this work is such that two applications by him to return to an operational fighter squadron have been refused. Despite this his energy and keenness have been most praiseworthy.
