Default RAF General Motors FM-1 Wildcat

Can anyone give me the USN Bureau Numbers for JV415 and JV636?

And if so, are the Bureau Numbers sequential (as I suspect)?

Joseph F. Baugher has 222 of these went to Royal Navy as JV415/JV636 Serial tieups not known by me

What must be said first is RN not RAF. Please write out Fleet Air Arm 100 times.

Sturtivant in FAA Aircraft 1939 to 1945 states that these Wildcats were ordered under Contract LL9036 and Requisition No N-4 (JV325 to JV636). The BuAer numbers are not known. If he didn't know, I don't know of anyone who does.

    Cancel my request.

    Actually I was two ways
    1) wrong 1 RN, not RAF.
    2) Even though the block of numbers on his sheets says that the RN numbers are not known by him, when I went through the list further, they are all accounted for.

In that case can you provide help to us, as to which they were?

USN serials are 15402 and 15916 respectively. The US serials do not run sequentially.

Source: A-B's 'The British Air Commission and Lend-Lease'.

Thanks Rob, I've pencilled them in. They do fall just before the BUAer numbers for the next batch of Wildcats.

    Hi Graham,

Just to be clear on the terminology, the BUAer numbers are in eleven broken blocks against consecutive British serials ie:

    JV415-438 15402-15425
    JV439-448 15470-15479
    JV449-468 15520-15539
    and so on.

In addition, the first 90 British serials, JV325-414, have no BUAer numbers assigned.

    Robert
