Your man was 1388087 F Sgt at the time of his commissioning, which was with effect from 30 Oct 43. His number as an officer was 161700. He was a PO on 207 Squadron when he received his DFC, promulgated in the London Gazette on 6 Jun 44 with the usual generic citation. There will be an individual recommendation somewhere. Regards, Terry

DEARMAN, Derrick Roy, P/O (161700, RAFVR) - No.207 Squadron - Distinguished Flying Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 6 June 1944. Citation from Air Ministry Bulletin 14171.

On six occasions this officer has, by his alertness and skill, been successful in fighting off attacks by enemy aircraft. On one occasion, when attacking Hamburg, his aircraft was three times assailed by enemy fighters while on the way to the target. All of the enemy aircraft were damaged. Pilot Officer Dearman has always been a most efficient gunner whose alertness and devotion to duty have frequently been the means of saving his aircraft from possible destruction.

I notice that the National Archives (Kew) has Combat Reports which you may purchase on-line, for the following dates - 24-25 July 1943 (Sergeant), 27 August 1943 (Sergeant), 30 August 1943 (Sergeant), 10 October 1943 (Flight Sergeant) and 23 December 1943 (Pilot Officer).
