Default 149 Squadron Fund in 1950

    Hi all,

I would like to ask if anyone knows the purpose of this fund which was resumed in 1950?

    TIA

    HI Pavel,

reference to "Strong by Night, the History of 149 Squadron" by John Johnston and Nick Carter, sheds no light on the fund itself, I'm afraid. However, the first "Annual Reunion Dinner" of 149 Squadron took place the very next year, in April 1951. I wonder if the fund was restarted to subsidise the reunions? Food for thought perhaps.

    All the best,

    Greg

    Hi Pavel,
Although even I was not a member in 1950, I think the Fund was incorporated into the Mildenhall Register accounts when it was formed. The Register now hosts 15, 75, 90, 149, 218 and 622 Squadron Associations on the web and have annual reunions. There are still a fair few Veterans who turn up and we have a thriving (free) membership, who honour those who served. If I can help with 149 Sqn information, please contact me from the Register pages. http://www.mildenhallregister.stirlingpilot.org.uk.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input Alan. Do you know the current whereabouts of Nick carter, who co-authored the book I mentioned above? I knew him 13 or 14 years ago, when he was writing the book and he lived just a few miles up the road from me in South Wales. I haven't heard from him since then.

    Greg,

John Johnson got a Christmas card from Nick, so he is still around. I will ask JJ for a contact :) He is not in the best of health, so I am told.

Pavel, look forward to your contact :)
