Default Lancaster LM628 lost on November 6-7,1944

    Greetings Group,
Any news on the loss of the above aircraft on a raid on the Dortmund-Ems Canal?
Was it lost to flak or night fighters?
Again, your help is always sincerely appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hello Bob,

Something of a grey area for putting causes to BC losses this night.

Chorley's BC losses 1944 does not list cause for the majority of the aircraft lost, apart from possibly icing claiming a 608 sqdn Mossie.

That said the Luftwaffe night fighters from NJG1, 3 and 4 made 12 claims this night.

Thoe Boiten's Nachtjagd War Diaries suggests that Lt Otto Fries of 2/NJG1 may have brought LM628 down for his 13th victory.

No knowledge of Flak claims though.

    Regards, Ian

    Thanks Ian,
I think it is time I invest in that book.
Will look for it on abe.com.
    Cheers,
    Bob
