Default Coordinate/location system over the Netherlands (ww2)

    Hello all,

For a small project i read the ORB's of the squadrons which attacked a railroad.
The ORB metioned locations or coordinates i the militairy system, like; rail junktion at D893838. And attack on railyard D98.
Are there any maps available on which i can find the locations of these coordinates?

    Thanks,

    Erik

    Hi Erik

    Try this: http://www.fieldenmaps.info/cconv/

I think it's the Cassini system that you need.

The reference you have quoted is consistent with a GR in the Netherlands used by the Allies in WW2.
The Grid system is the Cassini Grid as Steve says but it is in the Nord de Guerre Zone.
The reference you quote needs another letter infront which in this case is Q.
    Therefore QD893838 = 52 00' 49'' N, 4 40' 05'' E (A Railway Junction to the West of Gouda)
I use the following site to convert any Grid references http://www.echodelta.net/mbs/eng-welcome.php
I have a copy of the WW2 map used by the RAF for this area and could scan you a copy if you want.
    Regards
    Andy
