Default Some DFC and DFM recipients...

    Hello everyone

This may seem an odd request, but I'm looking for Christian names and service numbers for four DFC and DFM recipients, listed on the Book of Remembrance at the Church of St Peter, Monkwearmouth. The Book is somewhat lacking in detail for some entries, so I'm trying to pin them down.

This is all there is in the BOR for these four:
    F/Lt R. F. Adams D.F.C. of 9 Sqn [this, I believe, is Ron Adams?]
    F/O L. Brown D.F.C. of 9 Sqn
    F/Sgt A. W. Beer D.F.M. - no unit given
    F/O J. Lynam D.F.C. of 9 Sqn

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Regards

    Simon

    F/Sgt. Harold William Beer 1823957 : 186 Sqn. : Source Tavender
F/O Ronald Frederick Adams 176648 : Source Carter
No F/O L. Brown of 9 Sqn. Listed in Carter. Possibly F/Lt. Leonard Jack Brown 45641 of 277 Squadron
No F/O J. Lynam in Carter

Thanks for those Douglas, much appreciated.

The Book of Remembrance seems to be peppered with mis-spelled names - Lynam could be Lynham or even Lyneham...

    Regards

    Simon

EDIT: There's an 'H.R. Lynam' on 9 Squadron's books in June 1944 - maybe it was a DFM, not a DFC...??

A W Beer is probably 1823957 Harold William Beer, 186 Sqn. (From Maton's 'Honour the Air Forces').

    Dear Simon,

I can confirm the correct spelling of my grandfather's last name as Lynam. I'm his eldest grandson ( Craig Royston Welton Lynam ).

    Kind regards,

Many thanks Craig, and welcome to RAFCommands.

I understand he was on the same Lancaster crew as F/Lt Ron Adams DFC* in 9 Squadron, who flew 37 Ops including the attack on the Tirpitz on October 29th 1944. Do you know anything about his DFM award?

    Regards

    there was a F/O F J Lynam,

he was commissioned on 30 April 1943, 1017780 LAC Francis John Lynam, he became A/P/O with the RAF number 152007 and was promoted F/O on 30 Oct 1943, GD Branch.

He was killed on 1 July 1944 flying with 101 Sqn as Bomb Aimer.
