    Default Percival Richard Criddle 417621

I am looking for information on my Grandad's brother who was part of Squadron 461 and went missing, presumed dead, and am a little confused about where to go next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have accessed all records from the National Archives, and have so far pieced together this much.

The first time the crew of Sunderland Aircraft (EK 578) "E" of No. 461 Squadron RAAF was shot down was in 1943, in the Bay of Biscay on 16/09/1943, but were rescued. At this time, Sgt. P.R Criddle was Third Wireless Operator.

The second time was on 1/10/1944, ML735 "A" and the archives casualty list states F/Sgt P R Criddle was part of the crew.

My Grandad lost all information on his elder brother and I am trying to find as much as I can, but don't really know how.

    Thank you

    Hi Lauren,

if you have the info from Kew then there is not much more to add to the losses.

    EK578 was shot down in a fight with 6 Ju88s of 14/KG40

    ML735 by 3 Me110s of 12./ZG26

The crew are also listed as having driven off an attach by 4 Ju88s in the bay of Biscay in March 1944

    Regards
    Ross

    Let's try that again....

    Hi Lauren

Here is my original message this time with typos corrected.
I guess I am having one of those 'senior moment' days.

Still can't get the press cutting from photobucket to come up and
"All EK573 crew were uninjured and rescued the next day by HM Woodpecker."
should of course read "All EK578 crew....."

I think I will give up and go to bed now. I am going into hospital for a minor op tomorrow so may be off line for a few days.
