    Default Spitfire P8348

    Hi all

I have been doing some research on the two Spitfires bought by my local town - Rochdale - during the early part of the war, being part of the "Presentation Spitfires" project!

The photograph I have is of Spitfire P8348 believed to have been taken at Castle Bromwich and bearing the name "Rochdale & District", however in the Air Britain reference on the subject by Henry Boot & Ray Sturtivant they say the two aircraft were P8648 - "Rochdale & District" followed by P8646 - "Rochdale & District II", could anyone throw any light on this please.

Also if anyone has any photos of either of the Rochdale Spitfires I would be most grateful if copies could be arranged - many thanks.

    Hello,

Are you sure the serial reads P8348? The reason l mention it, is that Air-Britain's Royal Air Force P1000 - R9999 (1996) p.172, has the following:

    Rochdale & District I - P8345
    Rochdale & District I - P8648
    Rochdale & District II - P8646

    Hi Royton,

Thanks for the print. Well, you're dead-right there, Definitely P8348. Makes you wonder where A-B obtained their information.

    Col.
