Default Fg Off John Plowright (182386)

    Hello All,

Another one of my ‘unusual’ uniformed Met Men.

1577764 John Plowright is Commissioned Plt Off RAFVR GD Branch (182386) on 12 Jul 44. He’s a Bomb Aimer with 77 Sqn when he gets a DFC. On 23 Apr 46 he Transfers (as a Fg Off) to the RAFVR Met Branch – very strange! Whether he joined one of the Met Recce Sqns as a Met Air Observer, or became a Forecaster, I know not!

Does anybody have any idea what he got his DFC for? Any other help will be much appreciated!

    TIA
    Peter Davies

Unlikely to have joined one of the met reconnaissance squadrons, Peter, unless it was in a non-flying role. Most were in the process of disbanding at this time, although 518 soldiered on until October when it became 202 Squadron.

It's worth noting that all the wartime Met Air Observers were GD Branch, not Met Branch. If Plowright joined the Met Branch as an officer it would have been as a forecaster.
