Default 551582 Sergeant Hubert John PARKER DFM October 1940 38 Sqn

    All

Any idea what Hubert John PARKER got the DFM for in October 1940 while with 38 Sqn his service number is 551582 and I was wondering if he was one of the crew of my Mystery Bale Out 38 Sqn of Wellington P2526 38 Sqn February 21, 1940 - There was certainly a Parker on the crew

    Thanks

    Paul,

There is a quite lengthy recommendation in Ian Tavender's book on the DFM. Included in this recommendation is the statement, "Twice on practice flights, he has had to make parachute jumps and has had the presence of mine to collect all his secret codes and bring them away with him". The award was gazetted on 22 October 1940, the recommendation having been raised on 21 August 1940. Looks like your man.

    Jim,

Does the citation or recommendation mention 38 Squadron or type of aircraft ?
