    Default Fairey Battle K9179

    Can anyone shed any light on the circumstances surrounding the crash of Fairey Battle K9179 on (or about) 20th June 1938.?

    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello,

    Monday 20 June 1938
    No.35 Sqn
    Battle I K9179

    T/o Hooton with the intention of returning to Cottesmore, but was obliged to forced-land in a field near Little Budworth, S of the A54 and a few miles W from Winsford, Cheshire. While taking off to continue his journey P/O King* clipped a tree, stalled and crash-landed in the adjoining field. Salvaged and converted for ground training, K9179 was given the serial 1126M and was used by RAF Cranwell. Following instruction at Brough, King, whose short service commission had been approved on 18 May 1936, went to 11 FTS Wittering, where he gained his Wings on 22 December 1936.

    BCL1(2nd ed.)/46

    * 37857 S/L (Pilot) Terence Sydney Raymond KING MiD, RAF, lost his life on 10/11-3-1944, when No.90 Sqn Stirling III LJ509, failed to return from an SOE op. See: BCL5/109.

    I was interested in the source for the information on the Fairey Battle (the subject of my initial post), rather than the latter loss
