Default Petty Officer Airman Archibald Ashby, died 19 February 1941, Fleet Air Arm.

    Hallo,

Could anyone please help me with the circumstances of his death ? He appears to have died in the UK as he is buried in Sheffield, but I cannot find any reference to this in published or online works.
    His service number was FX/76332.

    Regards,

    Martin Gleeson.

Died most likely with the other man listed.
FAA, 801 Sqn, Furious, air crash

    Skua L3054

    Sturivant has for this aircraft:
801 Sqn en route Donibristle to St Merryn in fog, crashed, partially burnt out, Elidir Fach, nr Llanberis, Cat W 19.2.41 (S/L N D M Parsons & PO P Ash killed)

I would take the latter name as being a typo in the records Ray used.?)

This is backed up by the fact that Ashby and Parsons deaths are recorded in Q1 1941 in the Carnarvon district. freebmd.org.uk

    Dennis,

I am indebted to you once again, indeed doubly so. First for the information on Ashby and spotting that name error, but also for finding that naval casualty section on the 'Naval History' website for me ! Not having used it for a while I could not find it lately.

    Many thanks,

    Martin.

Yes same crew and must be typo in records as consecutive names on BMD registry

    Deaths Mar 1941

    Parsons Norman D M 20 Caernarvon 11b 1515
    Ashby Archibald 26 Caernarvon 11b 1515

Opps just seen Dennis checked the same thing and updated his post...
