    Default Fleet Air Arm question

    Hello all,
I know this technically is not the most appropriate forum but I was hoping your combined wisdom could at least point me in right direction.
Where I could I start to find information on FAA losses on HMS Indefatigable on July 25, 1945.
Any help whatsoever is sincerely appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Bob

    Bob,

Is it a specific casualty you are looking into, or all the aircraft lost on that day.

Naval-History.net records two casualties a day either side of 25 July 1945

    Tuesday, 24 July 1945
FAA, 1772 Sqn, Indefatigable, air operations
    GOODSELL, Maurice I J, Ty/Sub Lieutenant (A), RNVR, MPK

    Thursday, 26 July 1945
FAA, 894 Sqn, Indefatigable, air crash
GALL, Kenneth D, Ty/Sub Lieutenant (A), RNVR DOI

    Hi Marytn,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Well the plot thickens.
I am looking into the loss of Lt. Charles Peter Roger Stevens RCNVR who died on that date and has no known grave. As I have yet to consult the archives in Ottawa, I have little else to go on.
Seeing as he was on the Indefatigable, and they had ops on and he was lost, I was wondering/hoping to see if he was FAA.
    Thanks for helping.
    Cheers,
    Bob

    Hello,
This link has the date as the 28th July 45.
    http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/rememb...dger%20Stevens
And Naval-history.net also has the 28th and this
FAA, 1772 Sqn, Indefatigable, air operations

LA GRANGE, Antony M, Sub Lieutenant (A), SANF, MPK

    STEVENS, Charles P R, Ty/Lieutenant (A) RCNVR, MPK

Air Britain's Fleet Air Arm Aircraft 1939 to 1945 has on page 218
" 28.7.45 "69886" 1772 Sqn Indefatigable, FTR strike on Hirara, Japan, last seen attacking luggers at not more than 500ft. (Lt CPR Stevens RCN & S/L AM La Grange SANF both killed).
Aircraft would have been a Firefly. Could it have possibly been Z1886 ?

    Hi Dennis,
This thread got posted twice so I have answers coming in on both - sorry.
The above was very helpful. I had the wrong date of death. With the your link and the correct date, I found him.
    Now to find FAA expert...
    Cheers,
    Bob

    Hi Alex,
Sorry for being idiot and not realizing my typo.
At least my suspicions were correct.
All I have to do now is find info on 1772 Sqn.
    Sincere thanks,
    Bob
