Ditching involving air gunner E.E. (Ted) de Joux, RAF

Hi,

According to a newspaper article from 1982 air gunner Edward Ernest (Ted) de Joux, RAF later RNZAF, (service numbers RAF: 1151582 & 178476), was involved in a ditching:
“during one flight, a Halifax returning from a raid crash landed in the North Sea after attention from an enemy fighter. The crew spent three days and nights in a rubber dinghy before being rescued”.

If the correct aircraft type is mentioned in the article I assume it should have happened during his time with 102 Sqn late 1942 or early 1943 but nothing is mentioned in his log book. It is possible that it happened during his service with 20 OTU in 1942. His first log book was lost before he joined 102 Sqn.

I am grateful for any information about the ditching.

There are a few entries for him in the LG, his DFM was gazetted 9-Jan-1942 (No.7 Sqn) and CGM 12-Nov-1943 (No.102 Sqn). I'd suggest you get trawling through BCL for the few months prior to each award, particularly before the CGM.
