    Default William E Ellwood

I'm trying to find details of Flt Sgt William Ellwood who was killed in a plane crash in Wiltshire (and the details of the crash itself) on 1 October 1943. This is in connection with a booklet being prepared from the names on our village memorial.

He was asked about many moons ago on the old forum
    http://www.rafcommands.com/archive/09931.php

To quote the old thread which I hate doing but:
He was killed whilst with 1660 HCU during a training flight from Swinderby in Halifax V DG275

The aircraft broke up after failing to recover from a violent spin

Info from BCL Volume 8 - this being Bill Chorley's book, Bomber Command Losses, Vol. 8

    His CWGC listing:

William Ellwood was a crew member of Halifax DG275 of 1660 Conversion Unit which broke up in the air and crashed at Nocton Washway, Bardney, Lincolnshire. Note that the aircraft did not come down in Wiltshire.

    Dennis beat me to it.
