    Default DFC Citations

Could anyone shed any light on the DFC Citations for three members of a 35 Squadron crew killed in October 1944. They are:

    414768 F/O R.W.Brown DFC RAAF (Pilot)
    177263 P/O J.A.C.Clarke DFC (Navigator)
    158128 F/O A.Linton DFC (Wireless Operator)

Any help to complete this part of the jigsaw would be much appreciated.

    Regards

    Pete

Brown's DFC is gazetted on 12 Feb 46 and is effective 18 Oct 44, Clarke's is on 17 Nov 44 and Linton's is 12 Feb 46 with the annotation 'since deceased'.

All three are shown as being killed together with the rest of an eight man crew on 19/20 Oct 44, flying ND755.

I haven't found a citation for any of these guys and the dates suggest they were 'non-immediate' awards - at least for Clarke - with Brown and Linton being 'late' awards and possibly submitted post war.

Best bet to find original recommendation for Brown (and perhaps the others) is AIR 2/8828 at Kew. No guarantees, though - these "late gazetted" awards are tricky.

Thanks for your responses; much appreciated. I have since noticed that a fourth member of the crew 1090928 W/O D.Thompson (2nd Air Bomber) was also awarded the DFC.

I will ask my contact to have a look at the TNA file next time he is there.
