    Default Casualties on Circus 147 to Abbeville Marshalling Yards, 30 April 1942

    Can anyone identify the forenames of the following casualties on the above operation, please?

    129 Sqn: Sgt Plt Stewart, shot down in Spit Vb, P8795, into Channel, rescued by ASR

    222 Sqn: Sgt Plt W. H. McEwan, shot down in Spit Vb, P8780, POW

    340 Sqn: 2 Lt Blitz, WIA in Spit Vb, BL824, crash-landed at Westhampnett & injured

    Not much help but, Flight, July 2nd 42 issue, has McEwan as "W.T" (RCAF)

    P.W. Stewart (NZ).

    McEwan (655897) - haven't foud him in AIR 78 though.

    STEWART, Flight Lieutenant Philip Warner d'Arcy, MiD
    NZ404962; Born Wanganui, 18 Oct 1917; RNZAF 1 Dec 1940 to 3 Dec 1945; Pilot.
    Later P W d'A Stewart, QSM. MiD. QSM QB1997 For Community service.
    Citation Mention in Despatches (NY1946):For meritorious service as a fighter pilot completing 300 sorties during 370 operational hours on Spitfires. Flew his first tour with 91 Sqn RAF Dec 1941-Feb 1942, 129 Sqn RAF Feb 1942-Apr 1943 and 616 Sqn RAF Apr-Oct 1943. His second tour was with 1 Sqn RAF from Jun 1944 to the end of the war.

    Hello

    In his PoW questionnaire, he wrote his first name as simply William McEwan, service number 655897. born 3/11/20, joined 1/9/39, private address in Dumbarton, Scotland.
    Captured near Abbeville on 30/4/42.

    Roger Blitz, Free French, 30211. BL824 wad coded GW-C, category E. as per "Gusto" the history of No. 340 Squadron aka "Ile-de-France" by Frédéric Bruyelle. Blitz was wounded at his right arm but managed to come back to base.
