Default Life hell for the duration of enlistment

    Ok,

First day of Recruit Training - Corporal DI asks you for last name and last three:

Was it necessary for Authority to do this evil to Dennis George, born on 16th Oct 1947?

In the same vein, I was amused to read in the 11 Group ORB for 28 April 1942 a few days ago that, "Before 0700 hours Me.109s again made [an] unplotted raid. This time 7 attacked Cows [sic] and Newport with bombs and machine gun fire causing damage and some casualties."!

On the Bond 007 theme......a friend of mine was part of the RAF recruitment in the late 70's early 80's and he has stated that this became a common thing during his time, so much so that they deliberately kept the 007 last 3 numbers for when a Bond came through the system!! He said it always got a laugh during the pay parade when the Bond's had to shout out name and last 3.

I remember my Dad telling me he served in the RAF with a Richard Sole....

Whether he was joking or not I will never know?

I used to work with a bloke who had unfortunately been named by his parents Arthur Robert Sole. I wonder if they knew what they were doing and just thought, lets have a laugh.
